Brimarize
Hi Gents, while doing some research on the Mullard etc ads in late 1940's ww mags I came across the STC adverts for Brimarizing old sets.
ie upgrading sets with obsolete US type valves for modern Brimar types. There were about 26 ads in the series, running from Apr 47 to July 49. Shown below is one of them. They should form a useful cross reference for repairs from radios of that era. Ed |

Re: Brimarize
Here is another selection of Brimar WW advertisements, some of which continue the “Brimarize” theme.
The September 1952 advertisement focussing on export receivers seems to speak to the fact that Brimar’s American-oriented valve range might have ensured better worldwide spares availability than say for British types, although it is not stated explicitly. It is interesting that Brimar was still pushing the heptode frequency changer (6BE6 and 12BE6) for mains-powered receivers even this late. Considering that many export receivers included shortwave coverage up to 22 MHz and even higher, the 12AH8 triode heptode might have been a more appropriate recommendation. Re the January 1950 advertisement, were these (12AT7, 12AU7, 12AX7) the first B9A base valves released in the UK? Cheers, |

Re: Brimarize
I couldn't upload the January 1950 Brimar advertisment because I had already used it in the ECC85 thread. Renaming and resizing didn't help, so the system is very smart! Anyway, it was an introductory announcement for the three B9A double triodes. According to Stokes, the 12AT7 and 12AU7 were the first two B9A valves released in the USA.
