Pye /Philips desk microphone info req
Hi folks.
I need some info on the desk mic as pictured in the attachment. I thought it would make a nice desk mic for my Yaesu FT 890. I opened it for a bit if a look see so I could figure out the wiring. Problem is, a couple of springs fell out which Are for the PTT bar as it is now not positive and does not activate the microswitch properly. Problem is for the life of me I cannot figure out where they go. Anyone know, or have a manual for this which shows the locations of the springs, and the wiring? Cheers

Re: Pye /Philips desk microphone info req
There is a strong possibility that I have one of these stashed deep in the loft, as I had a bit of a Pye/Philips phase in the Earliest days of my being an amateur and I bought quite a few fist microphones, both the conventional and 'shaver' type, but I am almost sure I have one of these as well.
Give it a little while and if no-one else comes back to you with relevant information I'll see if I can find it and (carefully!) take it apart. Of course if you'd asked here first we could have told you what the wiring is: Then your PTT switch would still be intact. (Not helpful, I know). For the fist microphone the wiring is as follows: Pin 1: Red, Audio Signal Pin 2, Green, Audio Screen Pin 5, White, 10V regulated in from transceiver Pin 3, Blue, 10V PTT to transceiver switched by PTT switch Note that in versions of the fist microphone which use an electret microphone the power for the electret is derived from the +10V supply. This may also be the case for the desk microphone. Last edited by SiriusHardware; 8th Mar 2019 at 7:25 pm. |

Re: Pye /Philips desk microphone info req
Hi
Thanks. Yes, I should have taken far more care had I engaged my brain first I would not be in this position. One of the springs dropped out from around the board area when I removed the board. This is the one at the moment I'm not sure about. The other spring I think it maybe goes between the base and the horizontal PTT and possibly held in place vertically by one if the front crews coming up through the base. Attached is a couple of photos of the board. Wiring colours are different to mentioned above, but no doubt there are many versions if this.

Re: Pye /Philips desk microphone info req
Plug pinout, as viewed like a clock dial number positions with the gap at the bottom (6 o'clock), from the solder side, to correspond with the names (not colours) given by siriushardware
7 = pin 1, 9/10 = pin 2, 12 = pin 3, 2/3 = pin 4, 5 = pin 5 I also have a mic, but currently my garage is a no-go area due to imminent building work. Fairly recently I also saw the small A5 size service document booklet, but no idea where it is buried now unfortunately. Yes, these are electret mics. There are small component differences between the am and fm version, but the insert is the same. Often a small printed id sleeve is fitted on the cable. Rob

Re: Pye /Philips desk microphone info req
If I remember correctly, the PTT lever is able to be activated from either end, so you can press the horizontal section with it on the desk, but you can also lift the whole mic and press the upper section, more like a fist mic. So there would be two springs, one at either end of the curved lever. Look at the lever itself, there should be a mounting of some sort for the spring at either end.
I may be thinking of an entirely different model of course! Its been over 15years!

Yes, it is a two operating position sprung paddle arrangement.

Re: Pye /Philips desk microphone info req
I found a mic! The springs each go between the pcb and the case, with the screws running through them.
This allows the "floating" position of the pcb (with microswitch attached) to be positioned for balanced operation depending whether the top or bottom paddle is pressed. The spring return to off is provided only by the microswitch. Rob

Re: Pye /Philips desk microphone info req
Thanks Rob.
I'll have a look at that tomorrow. Sort of makes sense why the springs would be there.

Re: Pye /Philips desk microphone info req
Hi Richard,
I was moving some things on top of my bookcase prior to arrival of builders this morning and I found the small handbook. Pm me your email address and I will scan it all ( only a few pages) and create a pdf for you later today hopefully. Rob
