Default Roberts R24 FM fault

Hi there. I have just received a Roberts R24 to use until I have finished restoring my R600. The radio is in quite good condition but doesn’t work on FM. Could this be reversed polarity issues or is their something else I should be checking? When FM is selected there is static but will not tune any station.

Any help would be most appreciated. Brett

Have you tried cleaning the wavechange switch contacts thoroughly with contact cleaner such as Servisol 10?

Hi Paul, not as yet. I will have a proper poke about on Sat. I will certainly try some deoxit.

I wondered if anyone had come across this problem on this model before.

Many thanks, will put some piccys up of the R600 when it’s done

Not familiar with this model but had a similar experience with a Grundig portable. The fault was down to a daughter board that contained the FM front end. The solder joints where it met the main PCB needed remaking.

Is the FM aerial connected ? , there is a flying lead from the PCB that is connected to the aerial by a sprung 'terry' clip, seen a few where the clip has come off.

All hi. Thanks for the responses so far . I’m in the unit at the moment. All the switches have been cleaned and the aerial clip has been unclaimed cleaned and put back on again. Still no joy . I will keep going .

You could check to see if a DC supply is reaching the tuner by locating D302 (near the VHF switch on the pcb) and with VHF selected, measure between the D302 diode cathode (+ or bar end) and chassis with a voltmeter. You should read about 8 Volts if the supply is getting that far.
