Well done Trevor.
What a great result in a short length of time.
You don't hang around.

Hi.
Today I decided to recheck the original CRT and was rewarded with first class emission. This was odd as originally I got nothing, I don't see where or what was wrong so back in went the Mullard CRT. Fortunately it's good, not as bright as the Aluminised Russian CRT but very good nonetheless.
It's ran for a good hour and very well indeed. Now just need to repair the crack on the cabinet and polish it all up and find a back for the set.

Great to see the original Mullard AW36-21 back where it should be. If you come across a AW36-20, it is aluminised with a very fine screen phosphor. Everything turns up if you wait long enough!
The Russian tube would make a good replacement in a Pye V4 or similar. I thought it was magnetic focus by the M code but it very difficult mechanically to fit a focus magnet to a receiver fitted with an electrostatic focus tube. The contrast setting appears a bit low in your pics. The TV62 should give a much higher level contrast picture than your pics show. My TV 62 is bright with high contrast with the non aluminised tube. J.

Maybe the Mullard will wake up still more, given some hours of intensive use?

Nice work Trevor! My own TV62 gives a really nice clear and bright picture, I had an open circuit blocking oscillator transformer on mine that had been bypassed with a couple of caps and resistors, I only found it because the top of the picture looked odd! Fixed the transformer and it’s been great ever since. It doesn’t see much use though.

Regards
Lloyd

Thank you John.
The contrast is low on purpose to stop the banding on the camera
The Russian CRT doesn't actually fit in a V4 as its a little more rounded than the British tubes so it fouls on the battens in the set mid top and bottom.
I've a Russian Rekord TV from 1958 with the 35M1 CRT it's 625 lines and pin sharp. Only had an HT rectifier from new otherwise totally original.

Hi Steve
No its 100% really good, as I said in my reply to John the low contrast is so it doesn't band.
I've a good Fuji that I can set the shutter but it's got a problem with the focus motor and 99 times out of 100 won't focus, pity as it was a good camera.

Hi Lloyd.
You know I really like this set. Great to work on, sharp picture and good sound.
The chassis is odd as the two don't sit parallel to each other.
Thanks for the encouragement.

The same chassis was used on several Bush sets, I have a T57 & TV56 versions.

Glad to see the original Mullard CRT is good, I had the same low emission reading on my TV32, it also looked like it had been fitted with a heater transformer at some point, so was amazed that it came back to 100% after an hour or so, I was well happy that it was not suffering with a partially shorted filament as is common with these tubes.
