Default Difference between Mullard 1169 and 1179?

Hi folks,

Does anyone know the difference between the Mullard 1169 and 1179 modules, or are they interchangeable?

I need to know if I can put the 1179 from a Roberts R707 into an R600, which normally has a 1169.

Thanks, Andy

For what it's worth info on the LP1169 can be found in the attachment to post 3 of this thread:-

Nothing on the LP1179 I'm afraid.

Archivists. Perhaps you could create a "useful info" thread in the components and circuits section containing this data. It's not easy to find with a search

Thanks Graham, I've been there, got that!

The 1179 looks very similar. I have a spare dud of each, if I get time tomorrow I'll try to pop the tins open and see if they look the same inside.

I'd been thinking along those lines myself - perhaps I'll go there when I've done with Vintage Test Equipment".

Sorry, can't help with differences but a grey cell twitched and I dug this out of the shed

Apologies for quality- it's a scan of a grotty Xerox (genuine 3600) copy I made sometime in the 70's when I bought one of these beasts from RTVC and had access to the Racal Technical Library at Western Road (now long gone....).

Had a bit of a browse of the two datasheets- looks like the LP1179 is negative earth while the LP1169 is positive earth. That sounds logical given that th 1169 is earlier. There seem to be a few detail differences in dimensions but the two should be physically interchangeable providing they have the tuning spindle in the same position. They would NOT be electrically interchangeable!

Well done Chris. This thread is an obvious candidate for useful info.

It's strange that Mulard produced seperate data sheets for the two (six) versions. A single data sheet with a note regarding polarity would have sufficed and made things immediately clear.
