Capacitor ID
Could someone please identify the type of capacitor shown in the attached circuit extract. In the components list it is marked only as 25 uf. Is it just an early symbol for an electrolytic?
Many thanks, Keith |

Re: Capacitor ID
It must be an alectrolytic. The symbol is not very different from modern ones. Looking at extract I'm guessing it's a cathode decoupler. A modern 22uf or 47uf part will work. Voltage rating is unlikely to be critical so choose a 40V or 63V part. Even a 25V part may be adequate.

Re: Capacitor ID
I looked through many books but couldn't find anything exactly the same. Yes it is connected to the cathode.
Thanks again Jeffrey. Keith |

Re: Capacitor ID
It's a variation of the early American symbol for an electrolytic.
