Default References to other threads

Is there a way of making a reference to another thread from within a post? I can't find an answer to this in the FAQs or elsewhere.

Open two browser sessions, one the source and one the destination. Right click somewhere on the URL of the source thread until it's highlighted. copy (control C or select from the pulldown). Put your cursor in the destination post and paste (control V or right click paste).
If you just want a single post rather than a thread click on the post number and repeat the above. It's easier than it sounds!

Rather than two sessions, you can open them singly once the procedure is memorised.

You also use the construct [thread=<thread no.>]text[/thread] or [post=<post no.>]text[/post] in stead of [URL=<address>]text[/URL]. The thread or post number is embedded in the URL of the thread/post.

Thanks for that. I hadn't realised that highlighting the url would reveal a unique identifier for the thread.

If you only post the one post often the reader may like to see the previous discussion in that thread, is it then possible to see the whole thread ?

John.

It would appear that clicking on the link at the top right of the single post puts it into the context of the whole thread.

The important thing is not to try typing it manually, that's often why we get links that look OK but don't work.
