Anyone able to identify the models in this picture?
A concurrent thread has been discussing an auction of sets and equipment to be held in Scarborough. Browsing through the 'lots' my attention was caught by a small wooden British set which looks awfully like the one I grew up with in the early 50s, so most likely from the late 50s.
This then disappeared out of my world, though I have the vaguest of memories of trying to take it apart while left on my own. I'd also love to know if the portable behind it might have been the earliest of transistor sets - the presentation looks as though it might have been

Possibly Pilot Little maestro.
I thought you meant the one in front. Quote" Small wooden British set" John.

I think it must be on of the Little Maestro models, John. There's one (looking far more grand than I remember) on https://www.radiomuseum.org/r/pilot_...maestro_1.html

Yes the one at the front is definitely a Pilot Little Maestro.

@Steve - That's it! AC/DC with not a semicon in sight
The portable image clearly states it's a Freeanti Valve Radio

Hi Jules, yes I think it is the Ferranti, I have one like that in my collection, but I would describe it as a mains transportable. A nice set and works well.
