Combined Volume tone off/on
Hi folks,
I was listening to the football on my restoration project (Regentone A.155) and I noticed sharp changes in volume especialy when putting any pressure on the volume control. Its a combined knob (vol, tone, and on/off). I have read here that they can be taken apart to repair the internal gubbins so I set about de-soldering the resistors, capacitors and hook-up wire. Thing is, as I was removing the last few connections I noticed a resistor that was straddling the pot and a tag board was loose on the tag board end, so now I think this was probably what was doing the jumps in volume. I carried on anyway and removed the control. It is behaving impeccably with a DMM attached to volume and tone with no sudden changes in resistance if I tap the controller or press on the spindle. My question is should I still dismantle it for the sake of preventative maintenance or leave well alone? Kind regards |

Re: Combined Volume tone off/on
Considering the pot may well be 'unobtainium' now, and that the loose resistor is a likely candidate for the source of the original problem, I'd adopt the 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' philosophy, and just give it a gentle clean & lube, reassemble, and see how it goes.
