Re: Pye v4
OK so its not C101! Where is C101 fitted on your set?

Re: Pye v4
Are you reading 84 ohms on the tag of C101 to chassis even when the wire has been snipped off it?

Re: Pye v4
Ok I'm back
I had already replaced two caps around V1 and V3 as they had crumbled, they are te yellow wima.003's. I'm looking for the sausage shaped caps C14 etc in that area and for the life of me I cannot find them. All that seems to be down amongst the components are these flat disc shaped caps, I cannot read them at a guess I imagine these might be the ones? see pic1 of the section in question (V1/V3), the other pic just show state of play so far. I'm not wasting my best caps on this set. Last edited by oldticktock; 5th May 2010 at 4:14 pm. |

Re: Pye v4
#265 Good, that would have been a pain.
As you have identified, C14 is the next likely candidate. It should be connected to pin 8 of V1 but I can't see it! Follow the wire back from pin 8 and see where it goes. Last edited by PJL; 5th May 2010 at 4:38 pm. |

Re: Pye v4
I will have to wait until Trevor gets back and looks at his set as I cannot identify C14 it should be
working back from C18......R17(47R)......C14....R15(150R) I follow c18 onto r17 that hits a tag strip point, theres a pink wire which from this point flys down to another tag strip which has r15, No C14 Edit: Glad i'm not the only one who cannot see it |

Re: Pye v4
Can you measure the resistance to the chassis from either side of R17, the 47 ohm which runs next to the electrolytics. This will indicate which side the fault is...

C23 and C75 might just be worth a look at

Re: Pye v4
So the problem is on the C18 side so we can ignore the missing C14. Try snipping out C75.

Re: Pye v4
C23...... that's the other sucker i've had trouble finding, in theory it should be down from R131 and to the right a bit. Nope

Re: Pye v4
Easier still, just neasure the resistance of C75 and C23.
C23 should be connected to V4 pin 8 but again I can't see it. Do check there are no accidental shorts to the screening. Last edited by PJL; 5th May 2010 at 5:04 pm. |

Re: Pye v4
I think whoever built this did not use normal caps as shown on the trader, I think these disks are the ones as C75 is not where it's supposed to be.
I will try and figure it out by following out of V15...L30...C75 |

Re: Pye v4
Meter from V15 (pin 7) to chassis will be the same thing as measuring C75 for a short.

Re: Pye v4
It is possible the short is in the valve holder or the valve. Try measuring resistance to chassis of:
V4 pin 8 V5 pin 8 V15 pin 7 |

Re: Pye v4
how an earth i'm expected to solder down in there is beyond me. How did they build this, Ahhh Steve P's Tinkerbell
close up's of V15 where C75 is supposed to be another 0.003 around V1 there were Hunts which were easy to identify. I wonder if someone has been at this before me |
