Default Akai GX-4000D line out

A few months ago I purchased a GX-4000D in perfect working order so that I could copy my late father's tapes and some of my own I had stored in the attic.
I connected the computer to the line out of the GX and the line in on the computer. By using the audacity software all was going well, but now the line out has stopped working, I have checked line in by doing a recording and that’s ok it just the line out that will not work. I can still record to the computer using phones out, but is this as good as the line out option.

Does anyone know what could be causing the line out to suddenly stop working and would it be an easy fix, thank you for your time.

For what it's worth the inputs to the headphone amplifier are taken from the same point as the line out sockets so far as I can make out from the schematic.

Maybe dirty sockets or defective lead/plugs or dirt on the head, with the latter I would expect some signal from the line out if there's a signal from the headphone socket..

Lawrence.

I think you screwed up the line in on your computer, It is not possible to mess up the line out as it is wired with the phones out directly. Might be wrong but that's what is in my deck. Also the Akai gives a quite loud output on the line out. So, check your cable. I friend my motherboard few years back when I connected my Akai 1710W tube line outs straight to the line in on my computer.

Have you taken a look at the audio settings on your computer as the Line In may have tripped to "Mute" ?
