Queen film oddity
Hello
I watched the Queen biopic last night and I swear at one point the Brian May character was talking into his guitar to reply to a colleague speaking to him on the talkback. Have I misconstrued what they were depicting or did someone really think you could speak into guitar pickups... or did Brian have strange pickups? Martin

Re: Queen film oddity
Nothing strange about the pickups. Brian's "red special" guitar which he and his father built was fitted with Burns Tri-Sonic pickups which are normal guitar pickups. I Haven't seen the film so can't comment otherwise.

Re: Queen film oddity
I haven't seen the film, but if you talk loudly enough to set the guitar string vibrating then the thing will act as a (very) crude microphone. The feedback known to every electric guitarist works this way https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=luURyH9fzhk.
Cheers, GJ

Re: Queen film oddity
Thanks chaps. I wonder if anyone has seen it from the forum except me
It is worth a watch and I've found cinema tickets have come down in price very sharply (wonder if it's just a January thing).

Re: Queen film oddity
Nearly all guitar pickups are microphonic to some extent. No strings required.
The best ones just have less of it. |

(not to change the topic of your thread to another musician with a guitar, but if you are a music lover I recently saw something extraordinary and brilliant too, a cover of Jimi's version of All Along the Watchtower. Its very difficult for anyone to do in the first place, but it was done really well and believe it or not lifted to another level at the end: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fTCID7fQSQc) Last edited by Argus25; 24th Jan 2019 at 10:38 pm. |
