Re: Vidor CN351 batteries
I managed to find that "in the day" the Vidor 21208 battery never seemed to catch on. So the normal substitute was the AD4. And the L5039 was the equivalent of the "portable 61".
I built to replacement batteries an AD4 And a portable 61, and the radio now works. After some considerable work! Unfortunately the DL35 heater was dead, i found someone selling one and ordered it. In the meantime I substituted a DL96 - just for testing. See pics. Only problem - you can't see the AD4, the portable 61 name must have been a joke - it's huge! Derek |

Re the link in Cobaltblue's post #3.
I found it rather amusing to see a "heavy duty" grid bias battery was marketed. What amazing set would require that, I wonder? Possible that the markting folk had been told to do something to boost sales. Tony |

Re: Vidor CN351 batteries
Yes Salesmen
IMHO all need shooting in front of the rest of staff as a warning I just wonder how many here had an encounter with a salesman and thought their choice was informed and cheaper......... I thought not Many UK companies are now getting rid of the sales departments A salesman will tell you how valuable they are haha no just dead weight! No if your customer doesn't know your range torture your web designer to death Cheers Mike T

Re: Vidor CN351 batteries
The only GB battery I ever bought, probably old stock well past their general sale, was for general purpose use, so perhaps there was a demand, although they did normally last indefinitely in a radio.

Quote:
One of the companies my late-father worked with was known for paying their salesforce rather more than their MD and Finance-Director were paid - both MD and FD said 'we are nothing as a profitable business without those who sell what us back at Head Office produce'. The MD drove a Ford Granada, the FD a Triumph 2.5; the salesforce were in Jag XJ6s and Mercedes, all equipped with the then 'leading-edge' GPO System4 mobile phones. You need to project a 'successful' image if you're selling. |

Re: Vidor CN351 batteries
Sorry to disagree but since getting rid of the entire sales staff my youngest sons company including the sales director who said you will be wound up in 6 months 30 months later is posting record profits paying the engineers more and with more satisfied customers
His Salery has doubled since the company doesnt have to support the leaches. Cheers Mike T

Re: Vidor CN351 batteries
Our Customers are well aware of our products.
The only thing the "sales team" do is sell products we don't have. They get a percentage of the "the sale" engineering spend 20 times as much trying to get a solution. We loose money. (lots of it If the salesmen had to pay they would have to sell their houses) We make money on our standard solutions that don't need salesmen. My post stands Cheers Mike T
