Re: Dansette Challenge 100 Switches
That's the original switch Lawrence. All we need now is a picture of the new one.

Re: Dansette Challenge 100 Switches
Yes I know that, I've been waiting for yonks like everyone else for a decent photo of the new one, what's more with the original one it looks like an attempt at gaining entry has been tried just like it was on the replacement one.

Re: Dansette Challenge 100 Switches
Set your meter to ohms range. Touch the probes or croc clips together and check that the reading changes from infinite to near zero.
Turn the switch ON. Connect the meter between C and F. With any luck you'll see a low resistance. Connect the meter between A and D. With any luck you'll see a low resistance. Turn the switch OFF. Connect the meter between C and F. With any luck you'll see infinite resistance. Connect the meter between A and D. With any luck you'll see infinite resistance. IF these tests are successful:- Connect the incoming mains to tags A and C. Connect the wires going to the turntable and transformer to tags B and F. IF the test results are different, report back what you find.

Re: Dansette Challenge 100 Switches
Thank you for that. But what about the Earth [Green] from mains where does that go? On the old switch it was soldered to the switch metal casing with a wire jump from ground tag. This new switch is no good now. I will have to buy another and try again.

Re: Dansette Challenge 100 Switches
Why do you think the switch is faulty? What test results did you get?
It's not unusual for a pot to have one end of the track grounded to the case. It's a screening measure. I'd have thought a better place to connect mains earth to would be the player's chassis. If it was originally connected to the pot's case though, that's where you should connect it.

Re: Dansette Challenge 100 Switches
Hi.
What about the blue cables one goes to the valve and the other goes to where the stylus wires are attached under the turntable. The last picture is of the transformer with black and brown cables going to motor. These are attached to two red cables witch go to the switch. Hoddbod. Re: Dansette Challenge 100 Switches
The blue screened wires carry the signal from the cartridge to the volume control and from the volume control to the amplifier.
Connect them just as they were connected to the original pot. You still haven't reported the test results for the switch. GET RID OF THOSE LOOSE STRANDS OF WIRE FROM THE RED WIRE AT THE TRANSFORMER BEFORE THEY CAUSE A SHORT

Re: Dansette Challenge 100 Switches
The switch is no good it did not work after the fuses blew. I will buy another and try again. But i'm not very hopeful of it working. Does it matter what tags the red wires use These are the two wires attached to the black and brown wires going to the motor. And will the ground wire from blue cable lead need a wire bridge like the old switch?

Re: Dansette Challenge 100 Switches
Hi. I E Mailed Bowoods asking advice on wiring. They sent me a reply. A&C are isolated from D&F. If you bring live into terminal A you take live out of terminal C. If you bring neutral into terminal D you take neutral out of terminal F.
Is this info. any use to you? Regards. Hoddbod |

Re: Dansette Challenge 100 Switches
It tells me that my assumptions in post #66 were wrong.
Connect live of the mains cable to A. Connect neutral of mains cable to D. Connect one red wire to C. Connect the other red wire to F. Have you tested the replacement switch bearing this in mind?

Re: Dansette Challenge 100 Switches
I made my (incorrect) assumptions, as to which tag was which, based on the fact that I was expecting a symmetrical layout.
ie A paired with D and C paired with F.

Re: Dansette Challenge 100 Switches
Yes I get it, but I was thinking more of the layout of the rivets.

Re: Dansette Challenge 100 Switches
By old switch I assume you mean that originally fitted?
Is that measurement across both sets of tags? ie The two left tags and the two right tags (four measurements in all). If so the switch is OK.

Re: Dansette Challenge 100 Switches
Hi. Success I did not use original. Bought another from Bowood's wired as instructed and now it works. All i need now is switch knobs because the old ones just broke. I will make some out of wood because new ones are expensive. All the best for all the advice over the switch saga.I was despairing that i would ever succeed.
All the best. Hoddbod. |
