Minimod Enclosure/Casing
Soon to start building my Minimod, does anyone have any ideas for a casing/enclosure?
Thank you. Brian |

Re: Minimod Enclosure/Casing
Here is mine.
I needed something that I could leave next to a 1930s woody which wouldn't look out of place. I used 4mm banana plug sockets for aerial and ground, omitted the LED to conserve battery life and used a proper battery holder. Its made of pine (stained) and veneered on top from some off cuts My woodworking skills aren't stellar, so if I can put this together, anyone can. Gabriel |

Wow, that looks great Gabriel; I would never have thought of using wood.
Thank you. Brian |

Gabe that looks great.
What’s the battery holder called? Do you have a link to it? Any more photos of your build? |

Re: Minimod Enclosure/Casing
Sean, some more photos as requested. The top is a replica of the bottom, with the addition of the veneer.

Re: Mini-Mod 2021!
Looking at this thread a month or so ago gave me an idea https://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/...d.php?t=179899. To make a mini civilian wartime receiver for my minimod. Thanks Barry

Re: Mini-Mod 2021!
Hi Peter, Please put me down for one, I ended up with enough parts left over for a second one after building my first board. PM sent.
Thanks, John.

Re: Mini-Mod 2021!
Hello All
I love the boxes used for the Mini-Mods. I notice Gabe001 and SeanMcGee have both used down-for-off and up-for-on ON/OFF switches. I've used these switches in lots of projects and I used to buy them from Maplin before they closed down, but managed to bag a few before they finally went. I never understood why they didn't print ON and OFF the opposite way round on the back of the indicator washer (what's the correct name for this?) then you could decide whether you wanted ON to be up (often used in the US) or down (more conventional for the UK) just by turning it round. best regards ... Re: Mini-Mod 2021!
I understand that the choice of down for off is because it is quicker and more intuitive to sweep your hand down in an emergency than up.
Not sure I agree, it comes down to what you are used to. Peter |

Re: Mini-Mod 2021!
Apparently the orientation of the on / off positions is very much cultural. As mentioned the US is generally the other way up to what we expect here. The expectation that turning a volume control anticlockwise to reduce the volume, or a dimmer the same to reduce brightness is again cultural. As well as up / down switches, I used to see American equipment where 'in' was off, and 'out' was on. When the switch was out, the word ON was visible.
This I read in a fascination book, 'The Psychology of Everyday Things' by Donald A Norman. |

Re: Mini-Mod 2021!
Hi all
I have taken the plunge and purchased the Hurricane AM Modulator. I therefore have no use for the minimod pcb and main components ex caps and resistors. Happy to donate to anyone that wants them. Only asking couple quid to cover postage cost. See image. Terry |

Re: Mini-Mod 2021!
Hi Jolly
I have someone already requested it although he was going to send payment for postage, he hasn't done so yet. So give it a little longer and I will get back to you. He may have decided he doesn't want it after all? So you will be next in line. Terry |
