boxdoctor, you are right...When disconnected the radio went automatically to battery power. The Braun idea is a good one and I have been having a look...but difficult online to gauge the sizes...Anyone know of any second hand shaver shops? It might be a case of trying lots of similar 'figure of 8's'. Does the superglue and heatshrink tube seem workable? Would I damage the cable beyond repair if I tried this option?

I have a cable with a possible match on one end, you'd need to fit your own mains plug to the other. It's ex an old dc PSU I was given so it's marked + - and has a polarising notch. Cable is rated 300V so OK for mains.

Dimensions of rectangular end are 13mm*7mm and socket centre spacing is 7.5mm.

Any good? Yours for the postage, might squeeze into large letter, otherwise small parcel.

I think there are safety concerns regarding repairing the existing mains lead, i.e. risk of shock or fire if things don't go right.

I still stand by what I said earlier. There's a DC INPUT socket on the left hand side, right at the bottom. You could safely power it with a little plug-in power supply like this:

BUT NOTE THAT YOU WILL HAVE TO CHECK THE POLARITY AND MAKE SURE THE PLUG FITS THE JVC's SOCKET BEFORE USING IT. Maybe a local member could help you?

Hi Nick, Many thanks for this...Yes you are right and my apologies, I am not a very technical person and I hadn't fully understood what you had said earlier. I live in London and would be willing to travel within 30 miles to try and find a DC input cable if that will get power to the radio safely. I do not fully understand polarity (have googled) and would probably need a little help in this area.
Many thanks.
Michael.
