Vintage radio repairer needed!
Good evening everyone,
I have just acquired my Dad's Ekco U319 which is sadly not working. I live in Northampton and wondered if anyone knew of any repairers within a reasonable drive from me? I've been perusing the internet and have come across a few but they're in Worthing and Cornwall. I also looked on www.vintage-radio.com but the repairs info was out of date. Could anyone please offer a first time vintage radio owner any advice and guidance? Many thanks, Ekco U319 owner |

Re: Vintage radio repairer needed!
Like ALL valved equipment, the EKCO U319 contains components which operate at high voltage. In addition this is a 'live chassis' AC/DC mains radio(the 'U' = Universal) For these, and other reasons, the radio should NOT be switched on until it has been checked for faults. Almost certainly, several capacitors will neeed replacing, at least, before it is safe to use. Much useful advice can be found in the Repair and Restoration section ofhttp://www.vintage-radio.com

Well you can have it fixed or try fixing it yourself.
This is not out of date: http://www.vintage-radio.com/repair-...ion/index.html The manual for the Ecko U319 is available up top there. This is a common and fairly good set by the way. Cheers, Steve P.

Hello,
I restored one of these recently, here's how it was done .... https://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/...ad.php?t=36133 If you bring it to Harpenden next month which isn't far from Northampton then I or maybe someone else here will restore it for you. Re: Vintage radio repairer needed!
I have the Ferranti version of this set - it's well worth restoring, and relatively easy to do. Most of the capacitors are easy to get to, and the service information sheet is pretty comprehensive.
The design does suffer a bit on FM with overloading on Radio 2 and 4, but otherwise produce a really strong, loud, clear reception on AM and FM bands. Give it a go - we're here to help you if you get stuck! Rich |

Re: Vintage radio repairer needed!
Hi everyone,
Thanks very much for all of the replies. I think I might have someone to take a look at this for me and see whether it's able to be repaired. Thanks again for all of your suggestions - and as I've just been told "It can be quite addictive!" Kind regards, Lisa |
