PYE PE 225X Info Needed
Hi All, any chance of a schematic for this stereo radiogram? It is an export model of the PE 225 I believe. The first puzzle, is the separate power supply/power block comprising of EBC 81; EL 84 and EZ 85 valves.
The main chassis line-up is ECH 81; EF 89; EBC 81; EL 84; EZ 80. First time I've come across 2 rectifiers in one radiogram. |

It looks to be a later addition to convert a mono chassis to stereo record playing.

Correction, the rectifier on the power supply /power block is a EZ80. There is a magic eye on the main chassis which looks like a EM 81.

Yes, it appears to be the case. Thanks Bill.

Yes, Bill is right. The smaller chassis isn't just a power supply, it's a complete power amplifier, presumably an upgrade to provide a second audio channel for stereo gram reproduction with a stereo cartridge fitted.

Re: PYE PE 225X Info Needed
Just a follow-up on progress. After replacing a number of out of spec resistors, and some caps, the radio worked perfectly. It has now started taking between 10 and 15 min after turn on, to start playing? Any ideas on this problem?

Thanks for the suggestion. Just to mention as well, that I haven't replaced the main electrolytics in the can on the radio chassis (not sure if they could be the culprits), but did try swopping the two EZ80 tubes, but that made no difference.

It won't be the main smoothing electrolytics, unless you have loud mains hum from the speaker or they're getting physically warm due to internal electrical leakage - try not to become one of these guesswork part changers that there seem to be so many of these days!
As always, check voltages. However, for a quick guess on my part, I would try substituting the ECH81 for a known good/new one, as I've found that they can cause exactly this same fault you mention, and sometimes start taking a while to jump into action from cold as their emission starts to fail |

Thanks Techman, I'm trying not to fall into that category! With only 6 years experience in this hobby, I'm grateful there is a wealth of knowledge and experience out there. Two of the valves have gone bad during the process, so I wouldn't be surprised if there's another. I'll try your suggestion.
