Akai 1710 speed change
Can anyone confirm that to change the speed of an Akai 1710 from 1 7/8 and 3 3/4 to 7 1/2 and 15, one slips a speed change sleeve over the capstan spindle. If so would the speed change sleeve for an akai 4000 series fit the 1710 ; and if not does anyone have the appropriate device. Thanks

Re: Akai 1710 speed change
Hi ...If you don't have a sleeve fitted on your 1710 you will get 1 7/8 and 3 3/4 with the speed switch either low or high with the sleeve fitted you will only get 3 3/4 and 7 1/2 again dependent on the speed switch not 15 ips ..not to sure if the sleeve off a 4000 will fit ..but they are very hard to get and very pricey i have seen them on a USA site ..you can try having a search on the Internet. see this site :-http://oaktreevintage.com/Stereo_Ope..._Recorders.htm

Re: Akai 1710 speed change

Re: Akai 1710 speed change
I finally obtained the speedsleeve from Grand Canyon Tube Radio in Arizona (www.grandcanyontuberadio.com) but the price was a bit eye-watering!
