Copyright
Hello all,
May I make an observation, sparked off by seeing yet again "Practical Wireless" pages being copied and published on- or off-list. PW is still going and they depend on income to survive, the library of past articles is probably still available and really it would be better, if hard on the enquirer, to go to them first. Perhaps rather than the full article, only a "taster" should be published here? That apart, Happy New Year! Regards Ant |

Re: Copyright
Sounds highly sensible to me. Helps the survival of PW, engenders goodwill with PW staff, protects Paul and his team against litigation, it's win-win-win!
And with any 'taster', could I suggest for the poster to put-up contact details at the PW office? The first time would be a bit of a pain, subsequent times it'll just be copy and paste! |

Re: Copyright
This subject crops up from time to time. The articles quoted or posted from PW or other publications are not stored on the forum. Links are posted to magazine articles hosted elsewhere. This is not a breach of copyright.
The sites hosting articles make no secret of the fact and the PW publishers could easily request that articles be removed if they were upset about it. I don't imagine that the present publishers of PW have a very large staff and they may not be welcoming to a constant flood of requests for permission to quote articles from 40 or 50 years ago. It is also extremely unlikely that they would hold copies of these anyway. During the halcyon days when the newsagents' shelves held copies of PW, RC, PE and the other magazines with which we're familiar, back issues of anything more than a couple of years old were difficult to find.

Re: Copyright
Any company which is worried about copyrighted material appearing on the net will be looking for it. If they find any they will ask whoever posted it to remove it or face court action.
The mods have actually been asked to remove some material from this site. We didn't do so because we weren't convinced that the person asking us to do it actually owned the copyright. We heard no more about it.
