Grandata is back in Business
Hi all.
I wonder whether anyone know what has happened to TV and video spares company Grandata? Their website is offline and their phone number now just goes to a Number Unobtainable tone. Alas I placed an order a few weeks ago which was accepted but the components never turned up and I fear the company may have gone the way of other TV supplies companies. Thanks all. Kind regards. From Mike.

Re: Grandata
Doesn't look good, sadly, Mike: http://www.companiesintheuk.co.uk/ltd/grandata-trading
Their Amazon "shopfront" is also "temporarily unavailable". They seemed to rule the roost through the noughties after competitors like JJ Components had disappeared. It looks like Wiltsgrove are still trading though... http://www.wiltsgrove.co.uk/ Nick. Last edited by Nickthedentist; 6th Aug 2013 at 12:53 pm. |

Re: Grandata
I've moved this one to "sets and parts" as it's probably the best place for it....
I used to use them all the time, incredible stock range. Latterly however they seemed "not in stock" for a lot of items... RIP then ??

Re: Grandata
I haven't used them for quite some time but I always used to go to their trade counter in Ruislip rather than mail order. If I get the chance I'll try to see if that's still there...

Re: Grandata
I know they were taken over by another company 3 or 4 years ago.

Re: Grandata
Hi.
I mostly used Grandata from the late 1980's until the end of the 1990's. They were based in London and were really efficient, fair on carriage charges and their components were very competitively priced. When they moved, they never seemed to stock anywhere near the components that they used to. A sign of the times I suppose as consumer goods are practically regarded as throwaway nowadays. It's a shame as it seems they have gone under. Grandata and Sendz were my best suppliers. Regards Symon. Last edited by Philips210; 6th Aug 2013 at 10:12 pm. Reason: typo |

Re: Grandata
Worth keeping an eye on. There may be skips of 'junk' when the premises is cleared out, if they have in fact gone under. I remember Harverson Surplus closing in Merton High Street. Ten huge skips, packed so tightly it was impossible to pull anything out! J.

Re: Grandata
Well what a shame. I did use them extensively in the 90's and early to mid 00's.
The young lady who always seemed to answer the phone could be a bit abrupt but the range of stock was very good and the prices very reasonable. Latterly they did not seem to have hardly anything in stock so I stopped using them. The rot must have started then...

Re: Grandata
I found them especially useful for Japanese transistors (2S..) and ICs (TBA, TDA, etc).

Re: Grandata
They were originally in an estate behind Wembley Stadium IIRC, the two girls were brusque but very efficient.

Re: Grandata
It's a shame it's gone - I didn't use it a huge amount but I always got my electrolytics from there.

Grandata
Just got this email from Grandata....I haven't used them for years so I guess that the new owners have taken over the old mailing list. Time will tell.
"Dear Customers, We would like to let all our customers know that we have passed the running of Grandata to a new company. Many of you have been disgruntled with the level of service we provided and it was the right course of direction to let an experienced company take over. With that happening, there will also be a fresh new website!...with lots of new products and of course some of those hard to find products! The domain will remain as grandata.co.uk We have been told that the new website will be live in around 10 days time, so please visit. The existing website may sporadically go down and then become live again for the next few days. We would like to thank you for your loyalty and hope that the new owners can serve you better. Kind Regards Grandata"

Re: Grandata
They were always good for TV semi's and video spares. Hope they still have a good stock of these parts.

Re: Grandata is back in Business
At Nick's suggestion, the threads have been merged. A few negative posts have been removed to give them every chance of success looking forward. It's up to them to keep it this way.

Re: Grandata is back in Business
That's good news, I used them a few times in the past to get hold of some obscure parts, and I meant to buy a new LOPT for one of my TV's, but never got round to it. Hopefully they will still stock them when they come back!
