Re: Philips 653 radio
I guess it is worth sorting but it will want a few other bits changing.
Have you checked Pauls sheets at the top right? Yes,it is up there, change the EZ80 that is missing and at least C39.

Re: Philips 653 radio
There seems to be a couple of Philips models with similar numbers
I take it this is the one Mark means ? https://www.radiomuseum.org/r/philip...n_6534e3d.html Cheers Mike T

Re: Philips 653 radio
The valve line-up at the RM website doesn't make sense. OK, push-pull output maybe, but not a pair of UL41s as well as a pair of EL84s surely (or am I missing something?) If all the other valves are E-series then the UL41s must be wrong methinks? No rectifier so presumably a selenium bridge rectifier? Cheers, Jerry

Re: Philips 653 radio
Well worth looking at the circuit on this one Jerry, never underestimate Philips desire to baffle and bewilder
I can't attach the circuit as its against radiomuseum policy but it does indeed have UL41's and EL84's I added a link but it wasn't similar on closer inspection! Cheers Mike T

Re: Philips 653 radio
Hi Mike, thanks, I downloaded the page with the AF output stage. Wow, never seen anything like that before - as you say, only Philips……. Should make an interesting resto project but not simple, just looking at the switchery. Cheers, Jerry

Re: Philips 653 radio
There's also a schematic for the BD653a here:
https://www.doctsf.com/documents/aff...3544&num_fic=1 It's an 800 ohm output job. Lawrence. |

Re: Philips 653 radio
Think this one is beyond me then, that's probably why it was put to the back of my cupboard. It must have been put there until I found someone to show me what to do with it haha it does look like a nice radio.

Re: Philips 653 radio
And the UL41 is used for its heater-cathode isolation as the top part of the totem pole.
