As far as I know it was a custom Philips connector. I've only ever seen the socket moulded to a length of mains cable.

It was used on other Philips cassette recorders, and I think, the N1500 video recorder (at least). But the cables are not common.

Something makes me think of Eumig film projector power cables...
Don't know what. It could be way off.

I posted a scan from an old Maplin catalogue in this thread :

https://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/....php?p=1070760

showing various cassette mains leads including this one.

Thanks for the info guys, It doesn't look like I will be able to find one so I'll look into changing the whole thing and maybe go for a PC type connector.

Pete.

The chassis plug in the N2204 has a switch that operates when you plug the mains lead in to disconnect the internal battery. So fitting an IEC320 connector could be difficult.

You can run the machine off 9V DC fed in via the 5 pin 240 degree DIN socket on the side (the one with the red dot). Pin 1 is +ve, pin 3 -ve (the pins are numbered 1-2-3-4-5 on this type of DIN connector). Pin 5 is the +ve side of the internal battery, connected to pin 1 by a switch in this socket when no DIN plug is plugged in. One day when I get a round tuit I'm going to make up an adapter with a 5 pin 240 degree DIN plug on one end and a 2.5mm jack socket and coaxial power connector on the other so I can use a normal PSU and remote control (at the same time if I want) with my Philips cassette recorders.

Is polarisation important? if not then I believe there are switched versions of the "figure-8" connector.
