Looks like some form of tropical hardwood to me,
'Ive a bayonet fitting mains plug (to go into light fittings) turned from a similar looking wood.

Sorry - I misread your post! I thought you were asking what the coil was made out of!
Odd looking connector, certainly not seen one like that myself before. It looks quite sturdily built, possibly military?

Looks like a base for a whip aerial to me, possibly about 30MHz. Check the resonant frequency with a dip meter.

Yes, I would guess something in the low VHF region - possibly 30-60MHz.

The number suggests aircraft electronics bits according to Google.

That coax-connector is the same type as was used for the innterconnecting cables in the 1950s R4187 receiver/T4188 transmitter - as used in the V-bombers.
I don't know what it was officially designated as but it really does incicate that your tuned-circuit was part of some 1950s aviation-thing - possibly made by ST&C as they were then known. |
