Default Goodmans LS3/5A. Value?

Hello everybody.

I have a pair of Goodmans LS3/5A speakers in perfect working order to sell. I do not wish to go the Ebay route with them and would appreciate your advice on value and the best place to sell them.

Thank you in advance, Dan

I take it you've seen

https://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/...d.php?t=106889

I'm a bit out of touch with current values but you could be looking at over £1000 if you can find the right buyer (who may be in the far east).

I'd say the daft money is to be found on an auction site - the differences between the various versions excite the passions (and the wallets) of the faithful. Me, I'll just stick with my Chartwells - bought for £150 in 1978 and still going strong...

You might sell them here on the for sale section but a lot of us are skint and don't have £1000's laying around. That said there's no ebay fees or the faff, just a gentleman's agreement. It's usual to put stuff up for what you want, if it doesn't sell knock a few bob off the price.

Don't forget other forum's like Audio Karma etc.

Andy.

This is the case. eBay has fantastically more buyers than this forum or most others and, as such, it will get your speakers in front of the relatively few who will pay the very highest price. Almost nothing else will. But for sellers there are risks on eBay, as well as commission charges. This is just one more illustration of the well known balance in life between risk and reward.

If you want an alternative you could look at the European audio site http://www.audio-markt.de/ (click on the UK/American flag to get at least some of the site translated into English). This has a very large number of hi-fi buyers on it.

Cheers,

GJ

You are welcome to list these speakers here, but fashionable and exotic hifi gear doesn't sell well to forum members. This isn't a hifi forum, and members are too skint, tight fisted or (whisper it) rational to pay top dollar for questionable benefits. I agree that eBay is your best bet. You will get the best price if you are prepared to ship to the Far East.

Hi Paul,

I realise that ebay would get the best price but as they belong to a friend I am helping in a time of need I don't want to risk anything going wrong so I have listed them in the for sale section at a reduced price to see if there is any interest.

Cheers, Dan.

Also worth considering putting them on Gumtree

You could also try contacting specialist dealers in used hi-fi. You will of course not get the highest price (probably at best 50% of the value they will sell at) but a dealer will be able to get a higher price than you will get and this offsets some of the difference. Selling to a dealer would be quick and risk free.

I have no particular dealers in mind. You could search for classic hifi on ebay and look for listings from dealers. Also, i note Emporium Hi-Fi is in Norfolk. I have no experience of them, so this is not a recommendation.

They now are in the forum for sale section with a set price, so I guess the discussion produced a result. It seems generous to give them a first airing on here set a bit below what they would probably fetch on an auction site.

There is also a LS3/5a users group - on Yahoo I think - where they have a host of information about them and also a global following and a members email system where you regularly see them for sale.
