Sony TV 720uk portable - UK Vintage Radio Repair and Restoration Discussion Forum

Hi all. Newbie after some information as usual ....

During a clearout of my parents house I found the portable Sony 720UK TV that I remember using once or twice on camping holidays as a kid. I decided to save it from being binned by my siblings!

It seems to still work, but I wondered if this model is rare as I can find no information about it except a mention on this forum.

Is there an interested market for these models or should I just keep it for old times sake?

Don't think there were too many sold in
the UK..
I have the equivalent North American
version with Vhf and Uhf tuners, the 720U.
Recall seeing one in the Science Museum in
the 80s being used as a display device for
something (not as a TV exhibit) the CRT
looked very tired as it was on all the time!
It dates back to 1970-71..Not a lot of value
to it at the moment, keep it for old times sake!

They do appear from time to time on ebay, but not that common. By the way I have a copy of the service manual for the TV720UK if you ever need it.

My thing is 70s Japanese portable TVs, I too have the American version TV720u and it still works.

This thread is rather old now, but hoping you might still use the forum. I too have an American version, the TV720U, and am looking for a service manual. If you would be willing to share a scan of your TV720UK manual I would be so grateful. Thank you!

You are very welcome to a pdf of the UK version, send me a PM….

Having said that the two are different beasts because of the difference in TV standards and the UK model is UHF only. It looks like you may be able to buy a copy of the US version online for a price… “manuals-in-pdf” claim to have it - but be careful its easy to get ripped off….
