V31A Tube Tester/ reactivator
Hi guys,
Just acquired one of these Video Circuits CRT tester/boosters from a workshop clear-out. I don't do a lot of TV restoration but thought it might be useful. I found an old thread https://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/...d.php?p=255575 and understand from comments by HKS that these are rather vicious and tend to kill tubes rather than revive them so maybe not so useful after all. However searching the web I got a hint of a modification that makes them somewhat more gentle. Before I bin it as unfit for purpose, is there any circuit information out there (a quick web search produced a rather poor circuit)? Has anyone actually used one and have an instruction book? Does anyone know anything about the possible mod? Thanks in advance for any info.

Re: V31A Tube Tester/ reactivator
Actually, The V31A is not too bad. It is the later V33 that should be avoided like the plague.
If you continue searching, you should find another thread on CRT reactivators where I seem to recall I posted the circuit diagram of this model and various other testers. CRT boosting, like most things, is a bit of an art. Back when we had delta gun tubes, and the early Mullard large screen inline tubes, they were generally forgiving of careful boosting. Many of the early JAP inline tubes were the "dead in an instant" ones. Les. |
