I wish I'd kept up with my courses in 'Dutch'

Oh dear ol' Eddy Startz. As a young lad I would tune into Hilversum on a Sunday morning to hear the happy station on dad's Murphy. He often talked about life under the Germans in WW2. Radio kind of died for me when he passed over. RIP Eddy.

What a wonderful presenter Eddie was. Like Top Cap, as a lad, I rarely failed to listen to the Happy Station programme on a Sunday morning, on whatever home-made receiver I had at the time lashed together on the bench in my shed. Continued to listen for many years, until Eddie was replaced by Tom Meyer, who, unfortunately, never quite cut the mustard in my opinion.
I knew someone who met Eddie, and told me he was an absolute gentleman.
I miss Radio Nederland, and its Media Network programme too. Always something interesting, and no spiteful political stuff.
Happy days ! Tot Ziens. Tony.

Another "Happy Station" fan here.

I always think of Eddie as the Dutch Jimmy Young, I wonder if they ever met?

And another listener here. Sunday mornings in 1966 and 68, Radio Nederland booming in on the Bush radio. Happy days indeed!

i. too used to listen to the 'Happy Station' from Hilversum on one of two home-built radios, the first a PW-published two-valve reflex design called the 'Denette' (June 1967 issue of PW, IIRC), the second a multi-band Rx using Denco Plug-in Coils and OC170 (AF117) transistors dating from the early 70s, I have somewhere one of those 'Happy Station' Calendars from either the late 60s or early 70s, and fond memories of listening to Eddie Starz, and his successor whose name escapes me now.
