The phase inversion for the Y amp comes from the common cathode resistor for the first pair of EF36's, the input signal going to the control grid of the top EF36, the lower grid being connected to earth.

One grid of the input pair is grounded and they share a common cathode resistor, generating complimentary anode swings into the next stage.

Is that Mullard? The motive on the front looks to me like MI, or Marconi instruments. Just a guess, you may be completely correct (and therefore me - completely incorrect)!

Good evening,
It looks very Philips like to me. It is similar in appearance with the oscilloscope in the "secret writing of the electron" on one of the BVWS DVD's where all of the Y amplifier EF36 valves are in a line along the chassis on the R/H side viewed from the front, each with a screened top cap on.

Interesting, if one looks at the first post of this now merged thread, there is a few pictures one with a plate saying it is a Mullard E800. which probably with Mullard becoming a wholly owned subsidiary of Philips Electrical Industries Limited explains why it looks like a Philips scope. I did not realise that Philips owned Mullard from 1927!

The "Motif" on the front that Les mentioned [post 25*] looks to me like Mullard with a CRT symbol on top but I suppose it could be interpreted as M I. Even then, there is no apparent evidence for Marconi but an easy enough assumption I suppose.

The one that Bill refers to is now in my collection, I've got 2, this one had all but the two voltage regulator valves removed as they are hard to get to, and had the time base EC50 Thyratron replaced with 2 "hard" valves of indeterminate type.

I also have another similar looking one which also has no valves & any model or type badges have been removed, internally its not quite the same layout but seems of a similar age, all on the "to-do" list of course.
