Vintage TV recording
They are showing a live recording being made [Yehudi Menuhin At The BBC] on BBC4 now and invite us to judge the Telecine quality for ourselves! Shots of the equipment at the beginning. Almost as good as Hendrix at 10pm.

Re: Vintage TV recording
Thanks for that heads up, Dave. I caught up with the program today and it was very interesting to see the various film recordings coming from different studios and very good they were, too. Several Lime Grove studios were equipped with EMI cameras (one was in shot for a brief moment) using CPS Emitron tubes and this could be seen in the almost photographic quality of the pictures though I suspect that noise reduction equipment had been used for the transfer to server. There were also pictures from IO cameras (I think I saw a Pye in one of the Maidavale shots). The pictures from these cameras were much more "electronic" and edgy.
All in all, the quality of the recordings was quite remarkable and I wonder whether more processing than just noise reduction had been used during ingest. The music was also wonderful. |

Re: Vintage TV recording
Yesterday's [Friday 14th] "In Their Own Words:20Century Composers" was another program showing vintage recordings and equipment. As the Radio Times said this week BBC4 does a great job in pulling material out of the archives for our benefit. The trailer at the end about episode 2/2 next Friday promises more experimental stuff with, very probaly, equipment footage inc Radiophonic Workshop [judging by a clip of Daphne Oram?]
