Default Quiz time!! no audio on VT17 Pye

Hi
I remember being told this story from my old foreman in Clydesdale years ago and wonder if any can think what was the caus of the problem.

The lady of the house called in to say her rental Pye VT17 had been loosing sound for a week and now had none.
The engineer (name can be supplied) went out to the lady who stayed in Govan, Glasgow. Sure enough there was no sound, the PCL83 was replaced and the voltages checked, the output transformer and speaker speech coil were checked as OK, but still no sound, there was no buzz when touching the grid of the triode. At this point the engineer was pulling his hair out, eventually the set was lifted to the workshop and a loan left.
It was an easy job for the bench engineer though.
What was the fault?
Trevor

Well, if the volts on the valve are OK and the connections to the speakers are OK, then maybe R130? (Part numbers on Trader Sheet 1214).

Cheers,

Steve P.

Well done Simon.
The house was really dark with only one 40w bulb so "Jimmy" couldn't really see the cone or the mouse droppings. The back was off though which was a way in for the little rodent. The following day on the bench the "fault" could be seen right away. He got stick for it for years untill he died in 2000.
Award yourself a gold star.
Cheers

Amazing! I'm sure I have read about mice eating cones but I can't remember where. Thanks for keeping us guessing.

Simon.
