Re: Apple 2 Europlus Power Supply
Well - feeling a little stupid now! Turned out the power lead I was using had a blown fuse! Just tried a new lead, and the computer fired up straightaway. I just need to refit it in the case, then I can try out the floppy disks and start thinking about repairing the monitor (which has a cracked case, but otherwise is untested).
Many thanks for the help and advice - next time though, I should probably check the fuse first rather than last!!! |

Well, at least the capacitors will last for a while now
Glad to hear it's working. |

Don't beat yourself up about it. Nine out of ten users of this forum have made exactly the same mistake, and the tenth one is probably telling spare ribs

Re: Apple 2 Europlus Power Supply
Lovely, well done!
Yes, been there, done that too. My latest time being promising to look at my parents' Beocenter which hard died over a year ago. I exchanged e-mails with our resident B&O expert, got the PDF, dragged the unit onto the bench... then found I'd fitted a ridiculous fuse (1A) in the mains plug, which had blown after a few months of switch-on surges (my parents like to switch off at the wall at bedtime). Fitting a 3A one has sorted it and took 20 seconds. |

Re: Apple 2 Europlus Power Supply
Solid state audio gear mostly has a very substantial switchon surge as the PSU electrolytics charge up. It can be a revelation to power up via a lamp limiter and watch the bulb flash white.

Re: Apple 2 Europlus Power Supply
And finished!
The disk drives just plugged in and worked with no issues whatsoever. The monitor was in poor condition with a badly damaged case, but with plentifull superglue and bostik plus some re-soldering around stressed parts, it fired up without a problem. Now just need to re-learn some basic commands to actually get to use the thing! I shall also need to keep an eye on eBay for any software or expansion cards. Thanks again for the advice - I'll bear it mind for the next time (after checking fuses of course)! |
