Default Lots of sets of vintage fairy lights, Bakelite bases

More from my loft!
About 8 sets, some without bulbs and in various conditions, a bit of a jumble! They probably date from the 1950's - 1960's.
Three of the boxes are rather charming, two are a bit tatty but the Ekco one is still rather good.
Quite a few bulbs, though I remember some have blown, but felt they were too nice to throw away so they will need testing.
For anyone with a bit of time a few sets could be made up from whats here.

Sold as a job lot including postage 35........ treat yourself to an early Christmas present!

I am currently on the lookout for some spare bulbs for a 12 lamp MES set I have which is out of use. If whoever buys this collection wants to resell 5 or 6 bulbs to defray the cost, please send me a PM. No obligation of course.

Hello. I'm new to these forums.

Was Sunshine a Woolworths brand name? I used to collect vintage Christmas lights for a few years, but have since stopped and sold some of the sets. I have a very unusual set called Wink'n'Blink which I have posted some photos of them in another thread.

Yes, Sunshine lamps were the standard brand of Woolworths lamps.

ISTR that the brand changed from Sunshine to Vesta in the 1950s. Vesta was the Greek goddess of the domestic fireplace, so it’s not clear why such an evocative brand as Sunshine was replaced by the more obscure Vesta name, which might have better suited a range of electric fires.

According to the highly informative and authoritative lamp history website http://www.lamptech.co.uk/Documents/...0Leicester.htm , Vesta lamps were actually one of the first products manufactured by the business which was to become Thorn Lighting. Jules Thorn was the one able to meet Woolworths cheap price demands because his company stayed outside the pricing cartel operated by Mazda, Osram et al.

Vesta was a Woolworths brand used on a wide range of products including transistor radios.

Hello.

Thanks for the information. I'm familiar with Vesta, as I have some Christmas lights made by them, plus some replacement bulbs.

If the OP is willing to split, my eyes have found the EKCO bayonet outdoor set, I wish to express an interest in this particular set, they are rather scarce so it seems (no surprise given how rubber perishes over time).
If someone else is willing to take on the above set, I'll let them have priority.

The lights have now found a new home, a moderator can now close the thread.
Thanks
