Goodmans 120 IQ
Hi
last weekend I picked up a Goodmans 120 receiver advertised in the offered section of the forum from a member who lived local to me. He’d reported smoke on power up and this had been correctly assessed as an exploded Rifa on the mains side. Having been stored in a loft for several years the wood case was very dry which steel wool and several coats of oil has Sorted. When I got it home the tuning knob wouldn't budge. I looked at it properly today and the variable tuning capacitor was seized solid. A hot air gun and a lot of WD40 eventually freed it. I did see mention of this being a common problem in another thread. Apart from that a bulb was out but that turned out to be just a bit of corrosion in the holder. The bulb itself was fine so a quick fix. Bringing it up on a lamp limiter all good but connecting speakers I was just getting a lot of low pulsing static noise. Thoroughly cleaning the switches and pots seemed to clear this and connecting a source I’m now getting good audio on cd via the tape input and from FM. I can see the trimpot to adjust the IQ on the power amp board but am not 100% sure where to measure and what the no load current should be? I was hoping someone with experience of the one ten/one twenty could give me a steer. Oh the tuning indicator didn’t look to be deflecting so that may or may not also be U/S. I like the look of this unit. A keeper I think. Mike |
