Smile Kolster Brandes wire recorder

I have inherited a Kolster Brandes wire recorder vintage c.1947(?). It has a wooden case and a black roll top/lid. It is also a radio and record player. Does anyone know anything about them? Any ideas as to value? Is it worth trying to restore it. At the moment I haven't even tried putting a plug on it to see if it works.

There is picture of a KB wire recorder half way down this page:-

I'm sure our experts will advise further, but don't be tempted to just plug it in, you may do more harm than good! .

Regards, Mick.

Check the voltage before plugging it in, quite a few of them where 110v. These machines used a common deck, air king, Bang & Olfsen and other manufacturers used them, in working order and in good condition they are worth about £40-70 they are not something you see come up for sale often.

Do you have wire for it? I have a few tins

Thumbs up Re: Kolster Brandes wire recorder

Thanks for info. I have a few wires (7 or 8). They have probably been recorded. I want to hear what is on them, that is one reason why I should like to get it working. One of the reels is labeled with my name!

if the machine does not work let us know as I have a working wire recorder I could use to transfer the sound off with.
