Default NOT Steampunk!

When a local radio ham passed away a friend was tasked with the sad task of sorting out the shack.

This beautiful little casket was made from the thousands of 1/4 watt resistors found in a collection of spare parts.

It's not finished yet but I think it's wonderful!

Nothing rare has been ruined, but a lasting reminder of a gentle man has been created.

That is remarkably nice. Are all of the resistors soldered together?

I would not like to manually mathematically work out the resistance on 2 separate points on the surface

That's rather touching and probably unique.

I rather like that too!

They need to find a good ohm for it.....

Certainly in a very different league from an AVO with a light fitting on the top of it!

It looks to me like probably an existing box that may have been made of a perforated or woven material with regularly aligned multiple small holes that allowed the resistors to be fitted in a very uniform manner. It is a creative and great piece of work, that is for sure. It is a good thing to leave something behind like that. I like it.

Very nicely done! If you have a load of old carbon resistors that are completely out of tolerance this could be a good use for them rather than chucking them in the bin!

Watt a pun!

My friend Henry did not think it a Joule and should be put in the Earth in the nearest Magnetic Field. He then departed on his powerful Megacycle

Aesthetically rather nice. The big factor that marks it out as non-steampunk is....the amount of effort put in. I'll probably keep my resistors on the inside of the box, but whatever lights your candle!

It's just a simple wooden box, no holes, and each resistor is glued on by hand.

For my wife's birthday she made the box below.

For mine l got this wonderful little badge, which looks just like the ' bugging' device seen in Thunderbirds or The Avengers!

That reminds me of an episode of The Saint where someone uses an early Sinclair radio as a walkie Talkie.

They are beautifully made, creative items, and are utterly irresist(or)ible.

Sorry! I'll get me coat......

Could you let us know who made these things, was it the silent key him/herself, or someone else?
I am also interested to know if there is something in the design on the "resistor" box - I'm convinced that they weren't glued on randomly and I thought I could see a hint of Africa, or maybe South America, about the design.
Very nice and creative, though.

I've got a transistor radio where someone unknown has carefully constructed a new "case" or open surround if you like around the original PCB from soldered together wire. I also have the complete working chassis from a fifties woody enclosed in a new case made from transparent perspex sheet. It has ventilation holes and the dial light has ben replaced with a bulb from a set of Christmas lights coated with red laquer. Both picked up from a local car boot sale, in the days before I had to prohibit myself from attending such events, due to coming back with pointless tat!

Could you post a picture of this transparent radio please? I am intrigued
