At the risk of going too far OT, I have indeed re-purposed several such cells and they can be excellent in high drain applications when properly managed. However they can pack a 35 amp punch, so need to be fused, and the charging regimen is critical to avoid danger. I wouldn’t personally use them in a low-drain application, although their self-discharge rate is very low.

Yes I realized I made a mistake. What meant to say was if I purchased two lantern batteries can I use three of the cells to replace the dead ones in the AD28 original packaging? One is still very bright after one year, but only gets occasional use and is kept in good dry conditions.

Poppydog, is your radio a Perdio Town and Country? I have one of these and simply use a six pack AA battery holder filled with alkaline cells. Home Bargains sell a 20 pack of JCB brand AAs for £3. The trouble with rechargable cells is that they only give 1.2 volts. As others have suggested, it is a good idea to include a fuse.

Yes, that's what I have used. Made a small wooden box of the correct size and covered it with a scan of the battery case that I found on the internet and printed onto card.

Would you be prepared to add that scan to the sticky at the top of this section? It seems to be quite a rare one that I haven't been able to find. I don't need it personally as I've fitted U2 holders in my Bardics but other people may well if pusser batteries can't be found.

I'm sure Paul JD meant "pusser", it's the way "purser" was pronounced in The Royal Navy.

Pusser's rum, like everything issued by the pusser was 100% service original.
