Default Atari Games for PC info wanted

Although we still have our Atari STE and STFMs and a colour monitor there is no room to use them as well as our PCs. But there were some games we loved and for which there is no PC version we know of. For me there was a road obstacle game called Buggy Boy and I would love to locate a PC version which works with XP or ME and my husband loved his Monopoly and cannot get on with the PC Monopoly, does anyone know if there a version of Atari Monopoly for PC compatible with ME and also Steve Davis Snooker please?

I am a bit wary of these simulators with which you can supposedly run software from other computer systems on PC and would prefer to locate versions rewitten in proper PC codes.

Some of my MCSA classmates and our tutor are green with envy that we have not only a collection of Ataris and lots of software etc but a colour monitor as well but NOT FOR SALE!

Hi Angie,

I not sure what format the games for these Atari computers are in but if they are on 3.5" floppies it might be worth checking out some of the emulators from this forum

Love the cat pik. Try STEEM it is a very good emulator. I run XP on a 1GHz unit and it works very well. Superb programming going on here.

It uses a neat way to read floppy disks. It stores a complete image, some need PASTI software tool depending if copy protection was used.

Create a hard drive in STEEM, get the disk images or make your own and away you go. It is very impressive.

The Atari Emulator is pretty good (if you get the correct version!)

But the program stipulated - Buggy Boy - is an exception methinks..? As I've had trouble sourcing it for many years....

What happens is that the origional program (being one of the 1st to appear) doesnt comply with the origional arcitecture that the manufacturer specified (ie it was written before Atari finished the hardware!) ; so therefore an aftermarket emulator cant emulate it, as it doesnt apply to the prerequisites!

MAME is your friend....but recently has become rather random..? Quick searches are bizarre..so look long and hard..

Hi Angie,

Have you tried the CD ROMS that the like of Asda sell?
This may sound silly, but i have seen discs that are called something like, 100 top Atari classics, although i don't know if they are the Atari computer or the Atari console games, but it would be worth a look.
We had an Atari 520stfm and i remember a brilliant (for the time) Aircraft simulator, retracting undercart and all!

All the best,

Chris.

Sorry Wave Soldier - is indeed MESS...

The compilation disks seem to use a version of MESS with the original image or bin files.

Hi Angie.
This is a good site for Atari emulators and roms. I use this site myself.

Regards.

Hello Angie,

Try GamebaseST available free from this link;

http://www.gamebasest.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/Index.htm

The latest version of the software includes over 1200 Atari games to play on the PC via the emulator of your choice (I can recommend 'Steem'). The only slight drawback is the size of the download, its over 1GB! , but well worth it.

Regards

Good Link Robert - also an active Atari 'scene'.

Recommended.
