I've seen a few of those phones - invariably grey - in control-rooms, switch-rooms, remote transmitter-sites etc; there was a version (I forget the number) which had an electromechanical autodialer unit (in obligatory GPO blue-grey plastic) located somewhere conveniently inaccessible, configured so when you took the phone off-hook a call was automatically pulse-dialed to a pre-defined number.

Yes - the one number dialer was used in AA boxes to dial the AA
