Re: BRC 2000 restoration.
Hi, after spending several hours to no avail i decided to dig out of the garage a 19 inch Marconi version 2000. It has laid there for 36 years. I have removed the line timebase and eht generator panels. More Callin caps to replace!!
The question i ask is will the 19 inch pcbs interchange with my 25 inch sets pcbs?? Cheers, Malc.

Re: BRC 2000 restoration.
All panels are interchangeable apart from the regulator pcb due it's mountings, it's electrically similar though.
ISTR there was a mod to be done on the line timebase pcb if it was replaced and you ended up with no colour at the extreme egde of the picture on one side due to different video pcb versions. |

Re: BRC 2000 restoration.
Hi, thanks for the info. I will replace the various duff caps and will substitute the line timebase and eht generator pcbs one at a time. Cheers, Malc.

Re: BRC 2000 restoration.
Good news at last, the set now lives!! The replacment EHT generator pcb has brought the set to life. I now have a full raster. There is a fault with the blue o/p stage (no blue) The crt produces very bright red and green display with nice sharp focus. No colour yet and a nice hum bar to deal with. At least now i am getting there. Cheers, Malc.

Hi
I have to ask - how is the garage set looking after 36 years? I trust that will be your next project.... Glyn |

Re: BRC 2000 restoration.
Hi Glyn, the garage set is not bad. The cabinet is a bit loose and the psu pcb has rust damage. I will post some pics in due course. It is a worthwhile restoration. Also next to it in the garage is a large 25 inch dual standard Ekco/Pye ctv. Been keeping it company for the past 36 years.

Re: BRC 2000 restoration.
I've been watching this with interest. When you turn down the colour, does the set display a good Black and White picture. If it does, go for the decoder. If it does, go for the video board.
The transformers on these sets are generally OK. One of my boards had no A1 volts, I think that was W3. The 19 inch version is in fact rarer! I haven't got a Pye Dual Standard... Cheers, Steve P.

Re: BRC 2000 restoration.
Hi Steve, it is a blue output fault, not a no B-Y fault. Ther is no chroma at all. Looks like a blanket change of those nasty tantalum caps now.Cheers, Malc.

Was it Les Lawry-Johns who used to say "Beware the blue Tants"

He certainly did - and it was a Thorn set too but rather newer than Malcs!

Re: BRC 2000 restoration.
Hi, i have traced several faulty tantalum capacitors on the video pcb. Is it possible to replace these with normal type electrolytic capacitors of must they be tantalum types?? Cheers, Malc.

Re: BRC 2000 restoration.
I'd be tempted to change all the tants with normal electrolytics.

Re: BRC 2000 restoration.
Hi, i now have the video pcb working ok. The crt is producing good emission on all guns with a good grey scale and plenty of gain. A total of 22 more faulty components were replaced on the video pcb in order to make it work to spec.
Loads of resistors way off spec, all 12 tantalun caps and a hanfull of silicon. I now have no chroma and a nice big hum bar. The cause of the hum bar is due to the fact that the psu regulator is not working correctly. Neither the 55 volt frame regulator or the line regulator 52v-55v rails will adjust. This is the next job. Nice to see some light at the end of the tunnel.

Re: BRC 2000 restoration.
If several of the tants are bad then the probability is that the remaining tants are on their way out especially as the board is over 40 years old.
It's akin to changing waxies. I prefer to change the lot in one go rather than change some, then have to take the chassis out again and again when new faults appear. Keith |

Re: BRC 2000 restoration.
Hi, VT7 on the psu regulator is faulty. This device is a 2S034. What suitable device can i use to replace it with. I tried a BU208a but got no results with it fitted. Cheers, Malc.

Re: BRC 2000 restoration.
Hi Malc, I know nothing about transistors but this link gives the 2S034 characteristics and just below is a link to search for equivs based on those characteristics.
http://alltransistors.com/transistor...ransistor=6570 equiv with 2S034 data filled in with the subsequent results http://alltransistors.com/crsearch.p...200&mnf=&caps= |
