Default 60s TV Studio/CCTV monitor

Does anyone know anything about monitors from the 60s and onwards.

Hi,

I used to have an old Pye monitor dating from the mid 60's, it was made from steel and built like a tank, it was fully solid state with a huge fan on the back to keep it all cool.
Looking at how this one is constructed and the appearance of the materials used I would plump for early to mid 1980's.

What make is it?

Cheers

I'd guess at a tad earlier - late 1970s maybe (axial electrolytics, knob style). Are there any date codes on the big electrolytic capacitors?

And what do the badges/labels say?

Nick.

Looks like a Cotron or a Melford to me. Usually pretty reliable but those in CCTV use often have tubes with buned in images - they were never turned off and looked at the same thing all day. The ones used in TV stations were often on the players in edit suites and end up with a row of burn 'bricks' at the botton where the timecode was displayed.

P.S. to my last post (above) By coincidence I was looking on ebay and I see this very monitor listed with a make and description - so I'm not sure of the remit/reason of the OP. The general points I made are, I believe, valid for most monitors of the era - the particular monitor which, it appears, is NOT a Cotron or Melford I shall not comment on further.

Mods please remove if it doesn't comply.

because i know you not supposed to say that name on the forums i decided not to say that i was thinking of purchasing it. Aztec 20" black and white monitor, it uses pl259 video connection. I was wondering if there was any chance this could be converted externally to watch films or tv. I was thinking maybe this could work https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=Sc...ed=0CAYQ_AUoAQ

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

As you surmised, discussing this is against Forum rules.
You must make your own mind up as to it's suitability.
