Default Mitsumi variable capacitor

Hi
I have one of these from an early Panasonic transistor radio.
Problem is when the shaft is turned none of the vanes turn
I have had a quick look , if I tighten the centre nut it merely seizes the shaft,
It appears the vanes are held in place with friction as they do not have a D centre
To lock them to the shaft
Has anyone got experience of these ?
A fix without taking it all apart would be good !
Cheers
Pete
