Default Rust spots on speaker grille Roberts R717

There a few spot of rust on the speaker grille of my R717 which I'd like to sort out. Does anyone have any tips - what kind of rust treatment, paint to use etc?

I don't want to end up doing more damage than good.

Cheers,
Simon

If the grille is chromed you will need to gently remove the rust (if it is not too badly gone) without scratching more chrome off.

Then the surface needs to be coated verly lightly with oil to stop the rust re-appearing. Like the handlebars on a bike.

Once the chrome finish has started to oxidise, it is no longer covering the steel completely - the problem will come back if air/moisture are not excluded.

If it is chrome on steel, then I can recommend either brass wool or a green scouring pad. They're soft enough not to scratch the chrome, but sufficiently abrasive to remove corrosion. Worked a treat on the brightwork of my BRT400, and also removed much of the rust from the handles of my R1155.

Thank you both for your replies.

Actually the grille looks like it's painted. My set is just like the one you can see at the following link:

I actually envisaged treating the rust and touching up the paintwork.

Any ideas?

Hi Simon, I would take the grill off sand it, treat the rust mask out the badge and then respray the whole grill.

I actually considered removing the grille - is it easy to do?

Cheers

Hello Simon, the grills usually just pop off, I think the glue goes a bit brittle so it doesn't take much effort, just go gently.

Thanks again to everyone - hopefully I will get round to doing this within the next few weeks.
