Hi Everyone

Does anyone know where i could get some matalized cardboard. Im restoring a TV53 and the inside was lined in the stuff. Unfortunately mice and damp have destroyed the parts that were on the base of the cabinet and the sides are not much better.

Does B&Q or homebase do such a product that anyone knows about ?

How about sticking aluminium foil to card with a spray adhesive?

Either do what Dave suggests or get some bog-standard plain card and paint it with conductive paint or whatever. That method may look better and be less fiddly.

Presumably the original card had a screening purpose and thus needed to be conductive? I don't know much about tele's.

you can get it in A4 sheets from good Art shops, they may even do larger sizes too?

Art and craft shops are a good source. Also have a look at the cardboard packaging on some ready meals and takeaways...

Can you not do it the other way round - use thin aluminium and stick some card or plastic film to one side?

If you need to glue aluminium foil to cardboard, the best glue to use to make a neat job without getting messed up might be the aerosol spray adhesive used for fixing photos.

Cooking foil, thin card, spray adhesive and using a roller (aka milk bottle) will make a perfect job; done that a few times in the past.

Hi Guys

I went to our local art store and bought some silver card. I will try and fit it today and post some piccies. Only cost £6 for the card and no hassle with trying to glue alu to cardboard.

Ok, i used the cardboard and got good results. This is the worst TV i have ever attempted, it was fit for the fire, so dont be too harsh on my cabinet skills, im no carpenter.

Hi Mike. im certainly no carpenter either. but the cabinet looks a lot better than it did in the before pics

Looks pretty good pic wise anyway! whats that mark at the bottom left of speaker panel? silver stuff looks very good. Is this your first earlier set?

Hi Chipp,

The mark at the bottom left of the speaker grill was a big mould fruit that had dried out and gone very hard. It was removed by soaking it in water and detergent and picking bits off with a pin.
It was stored outside in a shed for many years, I thought it would be fun to try and bring it back to life, and yes it's my first early set.

In that case you have done a great job bringing back to life. Hopefully it should produce a pretty good picture. Look forward to seeing that
