Bonhams sale - 16 October 2007
There are lots of radio collectables in the forthcoming sale:
'Mechanical Music, Railwayana, Cameras, Police & Fire'. 16 October at Knowle I don't understand why Radio/TV is not mentioned in the title. The on-line catalogue is at: http://www.bonhams.com/cgi-bin/publi...&iSaleNo=15198 Gordon. |

The round Ekco's seem a bit undervalued.
I still can't afford one. ALAN |

Thanks for the link Gordon.
It will be interesting to see how the market in radios is going. Nothing fantastic there (Except the early TV) but a good clean looking lot of vintage electronics . Alex |

Re: Bonhams sale - 16 October 2007
A few spectacularly low estimates there, but probably no cause to get excited as whoever put the catalogue together doesn't exactly have his finger on the pulse of the vintage radio world. I rest my case on a lot containing an Amplion Radiolux loudspeaker and a "similar walnut example" from about 70 years later http://www.bonhams.com/cgi-bin/publi...&iSaleNo=15198

Wow. A Baird Televisor, and only 4 streets away from my house... 7000 quid though. Hmmm.

Re: Bonhams sale - 16 October 2007
Look at the little red "Fada" bullet radio in lot 39. I am sure that this is one of Gerrys repros - if it was genuine then it would be worth around £1500 .

Re: Bonhams sale - 16 October 2007
Some nice looking sets and the cabinets all look very nicely finished off to the same standard; Has someone gone "silent key" as they all seem to look like they may be all from the same place?

Re: Bonhams sale - 16 October 2007
A nice selection of Radios and stuff . sometimes they put lower estimates on stuff deliberately to help interest in bidding I believe , though not on the televisor I see

Re: Bonhams sale - 16 October 2007
Hi All,
Just got back from the sale. lots of good sets went cheap! It was a buyers market. I got the sets I wanted. However some of the very rare sets had been withdrawn for unexplained reasons. The Baird televisor went for £7000 Best wishes all, Paul. |

Re: Bonhams sale - 16 October 2007
Hello,
I went too. To me the cosmetic quality on many of the radio items (apart from the round Ekco's) was not too hot. Also, some gentleman (probably a forum member!) outbid me on the only lot I was after. Still worth going though. Staff there very friendly. I think there's another similar one in approx. 6 months. Michael |

The online catalogue (as referenced in Gordon's original post) now shows the prices of the items which sold.

Re: Bonhams sale - 16 October 2007
Lot 57 looks to have been one of the best bargains of the day. Seven mostly 1930s radios for £90 plus purchase premium/tax. It wasn't described in the online listing, but that looks like the huge 10 valve push/pull HMV650 in amongst those radios, easily worth £90 alone. I've never seen that Victory branded radio before either. Wonder if they are going to a permanent home with a collector (Forum member?) or this auction was just a stop off on the way to eBay.

Having got it home (all the way to darkest Northumberland), It is a bit of a "patch up job". It has had all the valve holders changed for Octal's and the IF has been mucked about with! I am still happy with it though and I will see how it go's with the Octal's in it. If I am not happy then I will change it back to as per the drawing. I agree that a lot of the sets were in a tatty state; But they went for reasonable prices. Paul. |

Re: Bonhams sale - 16 October 2007
Paul,
Actually you were not guilty! It was the Kenwood R-5000 communications receiver that I failed to win. Not sure that I really wanted it, but the estimate was very low. Unfortunately there were five bids already on the book when I got there and the said other gentleman was persistent in making further bids, so I decided to opt out. I wonder what will happen to the Baird Televisor? That was in a rough state for 7K! Michael |

Yes it was a bit rough! I was given one by an old Gent when I was young (about ten years old) as I had managed to fix his wireless for him. As I remember it was in much better condition than the one at the auction. Sadly I never got to collect it as when My Father found out he said "No obsolete junk in this house and you cannot get a picture on them any more" If I had managed to get it home I guess I would be "sitting pritty", now. I expect when the old gent died his family sent it to the tip where it would have been crushed thereby pushing up the price we saw yesterday Paul. |
