Default Pye P76F

I have just bought for the grand sum of £2.00, a Pye P76F table radio.
I have thought Pye to be a cut above the average in quality and build, but welcome to any comments as to if it is worth restoring, bearing in mind the cabinet has been painted in pink paint !!
If emulsion, it might come off with careful use of pain remover or thinners.
I have seen photos on the net of a shorter version of this radio with same style case, but I am assuming this was made with external speakers in mind. If so, was there a different model number for that type, or has someone just cut one down ? It looked too good for that to be the case. (no pun intended!)
Mike.

I believe these perform pretty well when serviced.

Yes, well worth fixing up, they are a good quality set and sound good.

The Pye chassis seems to stand up to corrosion better than other makes. I wonder if that had something to do with the ships radios they built?

Be sure to check "that capacitor". The audio stages are slightly more complex than usual, with feedback that can mask distortion problems in the output stage, leading to a possible burnt-out of the output transformer. Also, I think the F on the end of the P76F model no. indicates an internal frame aerial is fitted, meaning an external wire aerial is not required.

...but only if you are in a good signal area. Frame aerials were only ever 'local station'.

Yes a large square Frankenstinean frame aerial is inside the case to which I am sorely tempted to hang Xmas decorations to, but there are a couple of sockets on the rear chassis that are probably E and A.
No rear cover present.

Can anyone post a clear photo of the area around the output transformer, and also a photo of the rear cover panel please.

Many thanks Chris,
Is the capacitor on top of the output transformer connected to the end terminals ? It has dropped off while I was cleaning parts around it.!! Can't quite make it out in the photo.
Other details very handy for me.
I normally take photos before I start.

Sorted now. I found a copy of the Trader service sheets.
Apparently just a tone correction cap.
The small transparent dial that records the waveband only moves two positions and not four.
Not sure yet what is happening here.
