Re: Nakamichi 1000 needs repair
Has the problem come on suddenly or gradually? This effect can be caused by a build up of dirt (oxide) on the record/replay head(s). Try cleaning thoroughly with a cotton bud moistened with isopropyl alcohol or similar (I use Ronsonol lighter fluid). Try using a bright light to see whether the heads are scrupulously clean.

Re: Nakamichi 1000 needs repair
hi - B&W in worthing still service Nakamichi decks but not I think the older ones due to lack of spares but I'd highly recommend joining the naktalk@naks.com mailing list. There's a wealth of knowledge in it's members some of whom used to service these decks when they were new...
a common issue on many nakamichi decks is the metalized polypropylene orange capacitors that need to be replaced: http://www.nakremotes.com/Geo/Scott_...0Cap%20Disease adrian |
