Wartime Post Office van EL pass
Not technical as such but may interest some.
A pass issued in Bude on the 14 Aug 1940 to a Post Office van vehicle reg no BXT132 to allow passage through road blocks, probably around Cleave Camp and Davidstow airfields I believe this to be the only one known to exist apart from two in the Royal Mail archives in London. Re: Wartime Post Office van EL pass
The vehicle appears to be gone, the route to the document's survival would be interesting to know. Presumably it was still "se-creted" in the van when it was sold out of service and kept by subsequent owners.

Re: Wartime Post Office van EL pass
The van was scrapped many years ago by a local garage. Somehow the pass got put in a piston ring catalogue and survived.
A friend ended up with some of the contents of the garage. When he had a clear out quite a bit went into a skip closely followed by me. I came out of the skip with a little pile of local interest paperwork. |

Re: Wartime Post Office van EL pass
Thanks for that fascinating information. I suspect the envelope was just used as a handy bookmark by a mechanic. I wonder if the marked page had any relevance to the van's engine?
The route to survival of ephemera can be as interesting as the items themselves!

I am visiting the "History on Wheels" museum on Sunday http://www.historyonwheels.co.uk/ they may be interested. A lot of films use their vehicles (my little tank from Hello Hello is there).
