Default Sharp GF-8989HB 'Ghetto blaster'

Im looking to repair a lovely 1980's Sharp GF-8989E

To open up the set the cassette holder needs to be ejected to allow the retaining screws to be removed. I have probably missed something obvious, but the eject button fails to operate and so I am struggling to open the tape deck. I have tried persuading it with a flat blade screwdriver, however I fear anymore force would cause damage. Any tips much appreciated!

Thanks
