Default OT... Wanted Bus Ticket Machine

Hi
I appreciate this is off topic, but I know we have people here that collect almost everything (myself being one!).
I am looking for one of the old bus ticket machines, if anyone has one they may part with please message me.
Thanks.

That looks like the same machine that the Ribble conductors used in the late 60s in Lancashire! To be honest I’ve always fancied the machine that London Transport used at the same period, there was a toy based on it as well.

Hope you find one.

Would this be the toy Peter is thinking of?

I used to have one of them! The real London Transport machines were made by a company that Plessey had acquired. The factory used to be next to the railway near West Horndon. Plessey still owned it in 1970.

I was in Thame Museum today and they have one of those on display, I can see why it would be a nice thing to have.

I have been interested in anything mechanical since I was a kid, and have always thought I would like to own one and take a peep inside

Thanks for the link Dave, lots of Nostalgia there! Didnít realise that there were so many different models. I tend to think the Lonestar version shown there looks like the one in my memory.

When I was working my last boss had not only ticket machines but almost everything else related to busses. He even had a coach that he was restoring. It was a Bristol SU on which he was something of an authority. He had a friend in Maidenhead with eighteen!

I use this fact to point out to my wife that she got away lightly with a few old radios and me hunched over a soldering iron from time to time

How would you get a bus onto the kitchen table John?

Chap at the car boot had a table full of them a few weeks ago and a lot of London underground signs and other bus/tube related stuff. If he's there in the morning I'll get his details

Bus ticket machines were made in huge quantities from the 30s to the 60s, and almost all were retired at decimalisation in 1972. Lots were scrapped, but very many survived.

Hate to say this Joe, he had models as well! If I remember correctly, about 18,000 Bristol SUs were manufactured and he had a database built up over many years which had something about almost every one. At least, he knew the registration number and at most, he knew more or less everything, chassis number, engine type, etc, who all the operators were and where it is now.

This is one of his websites:

Very interesting guy to sit and chat to!!

I have first-hand experience of the 'Setright Register'
Built like a brick out-building but a swine to dismantle/overhaul when jammed.
Readily available off eBay etc.

Good afternoon,
I had one of these along with the shoulder strap and the backplate that the machine latched on to. That is long gone, not sure where, but I do still have an unused roll of tickets which you are welcome to free of charge.
They are from a long gone local bus company.
PM me if they are of any use.
Kind regards,
David
